In October 2006, 51 year old Ron Fierro sat down with Dr. David Adams to discuss his reasons for coming to Mount Sinai from Florida to have a mitral valve repair.

Dr. Adams: You guys just struck me as such a great story, because of…

 

Mr. Fierro: …with her being a nurse.

 

Dr. Adams: That is what I mean, it is just fantastic and you said it so succinctly about the data is not clear and people tell me different things but I looked at it for myself, which is one of the things I always preach to patients is that get yourself educated. Do not go blindly buying it, but actually educate yourself. Let me ask you one other question.

 

Ms. Fierro: I just want to say one other thing. I just seemed to me that if we wait for the data to come in two years down the road, two years more damage to his heart.

 

Dr. Adams: That is exactly how I have always managed patients from your age group because until we have the data to go with what I would do for myself with that disease.
