In October 2006, 51 year old Ron Fierro sat down with Dr. David Adams to discuss his reasons for coming to Mount Sinai from Florida to have a mitral valve repair.

Dr. Adams: You are comfortable with your decision to pursue surgery at this point even though the data, as we talked about, is not clear yet.

 

Mr. Fierro: I am very, very nervous about the procedure. The reason I came to Mt. Sinai – it specializes. You specialize in this type. You have a valve named after you. I think to me it is a no-brainer. I want to go where the best is going provide me with the best medical solution to my problem. Believe me, I love my cardiologist, I love my EP specialist who did my ablation, the atrial fibrillation history I have; but sometimes you have to just do the research for yourself and make a decision and it seems to be the best decision for us.
