Mario J. Garcia, MD, is part of a multi-disciplinary team of health care providers specializing in Cardiovascular Imaging at Mount Sinai Medical Center. His special interests include CT coronary angiography, diastolic heart failure, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease.

 

Dr. Garcia received his MD from The Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He performed his Residency at St.Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut and his Cardiology Fellowship in cardiac imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation

 

He was previously a staff cardiologist at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio since 1996 as well as Director of the Echocardiology Laboratory at The Cleveland Clinic from 1999 through 2004, and Co-director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Center from 2004 through 2006.

 

Dr. Garcia is a past-member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Echocardiography from 2002 through 2005 and founding member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography since 2005. Dr. Garcia is board certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the National Board of Echocardiography. His is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association Circulation Council and the American College of Cardiology. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), Circulation, the American Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and the Journal of the European Society of Cardiology. Dr. Garcia has authored and co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications and participated in numerous national and international educational symposia. He is a recipient of several awards including the David Jacobs research award (1997, North-East Ohio American Heart Association), Inge Edler scientific award (2001, Hospital Gregorio Maranon- Spanish Society of Cardiology), and Harvey Feigenbaum award (2004, American Society of Echocardiography). His work has been quoted in several national media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Time magazine. He was selected as one of the top 5 most prominent cardiac imaging specialists in the US by Diagnostic Imaging in 2005.
