In October 2006, 51 year old Ron Fierro sat down with Dr. David Adams to discuss his reasons for coming to Mount Sinai from Florida to have a mitral valve repair.
Dr. Adams: If you are in a center that does it safely and you understand the data, why not fix the mitral valve because, all of us would rather have, we are not going to fix the cardiomyopathy with that operation but we unload the ventricle, and I think all of us agree that we would rather not have severe mitral regurgitation, all things being equal.
Mr. Fierro: Absolutely… and not only to have you, it is your team, and the team that is around you working on it too. I mean it is just the best that you can find so why not do it that way.
